Mazda Announces Mazda3 Skyactiv Pricing

Mazda has finally released pricing on the updated 2012 Mazda3, which features the automaker’s all-new SKYACTIV powertrain technology. The base Mazda3 i SV sedan now carries an MSRP of $15,200. This model comes equipped with the previous generation 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that’s good for 148-horsepower.

Stepping up to the Mazda3 i Touring — priced from $18,450 — will give drivers the chance to sample the all-new SKACTIV 2.0-liter engine. This four-cylinder engine is EPA-rated to achieve 40 mpg on the highway.

Mazda Sales Soar In September

Good news: if you’re looking to buy a Mazda, you’re in good company. Mazda had strong sales last month, selling 25,521 vehicles, up 37.4 percent versus September, 2010. Additionally, year to date sales are up 9.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

Among Mazda’s strongest sellers was the CX-7 crossover, which racked up 4,909 sales, up 90.8 percent. The larger CX-9 garnered 4,201 sales, up by 73.6 from last year. Mazda’s crossovers and SUVs continue to see demand, as they’ve reported best-ever monthly sales.

AutoWeek Drives The Mazda CX-5 Crossover

The folks at AutoWeek got their hands on a CX-5 prototype to get a feel for Mazda’s latest all-new model.

Although the CX-5 marks a new segment for Mazda, the biggest news is what’s under the hood. The CX-5 receives the automaker’s all-new 2.0-liter four-cylinder SKYACTIV-G engine that features direct injection and variable valve timing. The engine itself is lighter than similar Mazda engines, and it benefits from greater fuel efficient and lower emissions thank the outgoing four-cylinder engine it replaces.

Mazda The First OEM To Recycle Bumpers

Mazda has officially become the world’s first automaker to recycle scrapped bumpers from end-of-life vehicles into raw material for new vehicle bumpers. This new process is helping to create bumpers for the Mazda Biante minivan, which is sold in Japan.

By finding a way to recycle old bumpers into material for new vehicle bumpers, Mazda says it will dramatically improve the recycling ratio (MRR) of Mazda vehicles and will also contribute to a more effective use of resources.

Mazda Has Another Successful Racing Season

As the 2011 racing season nears its end, Mazda has secured two manufacturers championships and almost scored a third. The end of the season marks another incredible championship season for Mazda.

“As any racer will tell you, championships actually take years to accomplish as you need to develop both the people and the products,” said John Doonan, Director of Motorsports for Mazda North American Operations. “We can’t thank our partners enough.”

Mazda CX-5 Crossover Revealed in Frankfurt

Mazda’s all-new compact crossover debuted in Frankfurt, Germany this week. The new generation crossover will boast the automaker’s new SKYACTIV powertrain technology, which promising sportiness and fuel-efficiency.

The new crossover will be available with new gasoline and diesel engines, mated to all new manual and automatic transmissions. Its new 2.0-liter direct injection engine will feature 165 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque.

Mazda’s i-Stop is Coming To The U.S.

Mazda is already preparing to bring its innovative SKYACTIV powertrain technologies to its U.S. lineup beginning this year. And, the automaker’s award-winning i-Stop – the Japanese automaker’s stop-start system – will also be arriving Stateside to boost fuel economy even more.

According to Mazda, i-Stop will yield five to eight percent fuel economy gains on Japan’s test cycle. Although it will likely arrive in the automaker’s U.S. lineup, reports suggest it won’t be anytime soon. Jim O’Sullivan, chief executive officer of Mazda North America, has also said that it will become available on U.S. vehicles beginning in 2016.

Mazda’s SKYACTIV-Powered Demio Tops Japan’s “Eco Cars”

In a recent survey of “Eco Cars” in Japan, Mazda’s recently updated Demio (aka Mazda2) came out on top. The Demio was deemed more eco-friendly than even the Toyota Prius thanks to its ultra fuel-efficient 1.3-liter SKYACTIV gasoline engine.

The SC-Abeam Consulting survey asked 500 respondents to choose from a pool of 24 hybrid and fuel-efficient gasoline engine cars. No EVs were included in the survey pool. The Demio bested the Prius and the Daihatsu e:S Kei car as the most eco-friendly of the bunch.

Mazda CX-5: Part Sport Utility, Part Sports Car

The all-new Mazda CX-5 crossover will soon arrive in U.S. showrooms to take on the likes on the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Nissan Rogue. To standout from the venerable competition, the CX-5 will blend utility with sports car dynamics.

Mazda infused the CX-5 with its all-new SKYACTIV powertrain technologies and also tuned its suspension for sporty handling. Under the hood is an all-new 2.0-liter gasoline engine mated to new six-speed manual and automatic transmissions. There’s even a all-new 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel available. Regardless of powertrain configurations, Mazda promises sporting performance and efficiency.
