Mazda CX-5 and the New Skyactiv-D

Mazda Motor Corporation has commenced production of the all-new Mazda CX-5 with its new-generation SKYACTIV-D 2.2-litre, super clean diesel engine at its Ujina Plant near Mazda’s headquarters in Hiroshima.

The CX-5 will be the first model of the company’s new-generation products that adopts SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY throughout the vehicle, in the powertrain, body and chassis, while fully embracing Mazda’s new design theme, “KODO – Soul of Motion.” Mazda will start introducing the Mazda CX-5 this spring.

2012 Mazda3 Named Top Safety Pick

The 2012 Mazda3 was recognized as a “Top Safety Pick” by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). Refreshed for 2012, both sedan and hatchback models received the organization’s highest possible crash safety rating of “good” in all four tests conducted.

“Mazda3 is an important vehicle for Mazda on so many levels,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO).

2013 Mazda CX-5: The SUV with the Best Highway Mileage

Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today announced official fuel economy figures for the all-new 2013 CX-5 compact SUV, as rated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with highway mileage of some models as high as 35 miles per gallon (mpg).

2013 Mazda CX-5 Crossover of the Year

Mazdaspeed3 Receives ALG Award for Highest Residual Value in U.S. Sportscar Segment

Mazda Motor Corporation today announced that the Mazdaspeed3 has won the 2012 Residual Value Award in the Sportscar segment from the Automotive Lease Guide (ALG) in the U.S.

Each year, ALG evaluates vehicles available in the U.S. and Canada and predicts which will retain the highest percentage of the purchase price after a three-year period. ALG bases its evaluations after carefully studying numerous factors, including performance, equipment levels, quality and industry pricing trends. As a result, it is a highly trusted source of information and widely used by customers when choosing a new vehicle.

Mazda2 Wins Car Technology of the Year

Mazda Motor Corporation’s facelifted Mazda2 with the SKYACTIV-G 1.3 gasoline engine, together with its development team, has received the 2011-2012 Car Technology of the Year award from the Japan Automotive Hall of Fame (JAHFA). The Mazda Demio 13-SKYACTIV was launched in Japan in June 2011. The result was announced today by JAHFA, a registered nonprofit organization based in Tokyo.

The winner of the Car Technology of the Year award is selected by the Automotive Hall of Fame committee, which comprises eleven university professors and researchers. The Mazda Demio 13-SKYACTIV was recognized for the following points:

  • Advanced combustion characteristics that were developed through comprehensive analysis of the internal combustion engine
  • Improved driving performance and improved value-for-money
  • Best balance of pleasing driving and environmental concern

Mazda TAKERI to Debut at 2011 Tokyo Motor Show

Mazda Motor Corporation will showcase the global premiere of the Mazda TAKERI next-generation midsize sedan concept car at the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show. The show will also see the Japanese debut of the new CX-5 crossover SUV outfitted with the complete range of Mazda’s breakthrough SkyActiv technology, as well as other new technologies and production models.

The 2011 Tokyo Motor Show will run from December 2-11 at the Tokyo Big Sight (Tokyo International Exhibition Center). Mazda’s theme for the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show is “Environmental Technology, Pushing the Boundaries of the Emotion of Motion.”

Mazda Chief Takashi Yamanouchi to Open 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show

Takashi Yamanouchi, Representative Director, President and Chief Executive Officer for Mazda Motor Corporation, will kick off the Los Angeles Auto Show Press Days with the Motor Press Guild (MPG) keynote address on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011 at 8:00 a.m. The MPG presentation and Yamanouchi’s address are open to all credentialed media attending the show’s Press Days Nov. 16 and 17. A Q-and-A session will be part of the event.

Yamanouchi, who has been with Mazda for more than four decades and has served three years as CEO, will offer a frontline perspective of lessons learned in the aftermath of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan, as well as how the automotive industry is adapting in the midst of rapidly changing economic conditions around the world.

Mazda Tweet Confirms New Rotary Models

Mazda appears to have addressed the “Will they or won’t they?” rumors regarding further development of the rotary engine and the answer seems to be that they will. A tweet from the automaker’s Japanese Twitter account contained the following statement, translated from the original Japanese:

“Thank you so much for all your supportive messages concerning the RX-8 and the rotary engine! We are also excited. Mazda is aiming to achieve a breakthrough with the Skyactiv technology, and we are zealously working on new models to house the next generation rotary engine. Thank you for your continued support!”

Of course, the tweet has already fueled speculation on what type of Wankel-powered models Mazda might be working on and when they could appear. Stay tuned for more details.


Lower Prices, Efficiency Highlight 2012 Mazda3

They say good things come in threes, and that will certainly be the case with the 2012 Mazda3. The best-selling model in the Mazda lineup was significantly refreshed for the new model year, with the lineup adding the automaker’s breakthrough Skyactiv powertrain technology while removing hundreds of dollars from its starting price.

It all starts with the Mazda3 i SV sedan, with an MSRP of $15,200—$600 less than the 2011 model.
