Mazda2 Keeps It Sporty

July 25th, 2011

The Mazda2 subcompact only offers 100 horsepower. But don’t let its engine specs fool you—it’s packed with Zoom Zoom fun.

Thanks to its lightweight chassis, its 100-horsepower 1.5-liter engine delivers. The Mazda2 comes with tons of fun-to-drive characteristics that don’t require the extra HP. On top of that, having such a small engine helps the Mazda2 perform with the pros in fuel efficiency, rated at 29 MPG City / 35 MPG Highway with a 5-speed manual transmission.

In addition to a peppy engine and crisp handling, the 2011 Mazda2 boasts plenty of amenities inside. Standard features include air conditioning, power mirrors, door locks and windows, plus remote keyless entry. There’s also a slew of safety features including advanced front air bags, front side-impact air bags and side-impact air curtains, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and Traction Control System (TCS).

The 2011 Mazda2 is extremely affordable, with a base price of just $14,180. But unlike other bargain-basement subcompacts, the Mazda2 is actually fun to drive. There’s no mistaking the MX-5 Miata DNA in its bloodline. If you want a cheap car but don’t want to sacrifice sportiness, the Mazda2 is certainly worth a look.
